Slicks must run hot and stay hot - warmers and aggressive riding needed. Sc0 will wear out quicker than sc1/2. I've run slicks for over 10 years and love them... But you need to get the right ones in the right size for your bike and use. 180 or 190 rear for 600cc bikes 190 or 200 for liter bikes - more power/weight in each class will favour the larger size but geometry and suspension setup also need to be setup for the size of tire chosen.

Race tires that are road legal are almost identical to slicks (compound/carcas) as slicks but the he grooves remove some of the contact patch = less traction.

90+ riders will be as fast on dot race tires as in slicks - me included. but I still run slicks for the mental confidence aspect that allows me to push that little bit more than if I run non-slicks
